“Doing great with hearing aids and tinnitus treatment. Amazing, the tinnitus treatment is “soothing”. On some mornings the tinnitus is 50% reduced.”  M.P. new patient 7/20/2017

I have worked with and helped people with tinnitus for 20 years. Effective tinnitus treatment takes time, requires patience and a long term commitment from both the patient and the audiologist.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is when you hear a constant or intermittent ringing in your ears when there is no external ringing sound in the environment.  Most of the time only you can hear the ringing but on rare occasions your tinnitus can be heard by someone else.

Tinnitus varies in how loud it sounds, the level of discomfort, annoyance and distraction it may cause you.  Some people are extremely troubled by their tinnitus affecting their ability to sleep and interfering with concentration and all aspects of their life.

Currently there is no cure for tinnitus.  There is no surgery or drugs you can take to get rid of tinnitus. Sometimes the tinnitus will subside and go away by itself. Often, the tinnitus never goes away and you have it forever.

What Causes Tinnitus?

The cause of tinnitus is unknown. Currently, we believe it is caused by the brain in reaction to lack of stimulation from certain frequencies. We do know, it is associated with exposure to loud sound such as machinery, concerts and listening through loud headphones or earbuds. There are some medications that also are known to cause tinnitus.

What Treatment Options Are There?

Today we know how to dramatically reduce the discomfort, annoyance & distraction of tinnitus. Some people with tinnitus also have hearing loss and some have tinnitus without any hearing loss. For those with troublesome tinnitus and hearing loss our first line of defense is to fit the person with hearing aids that also can receive sound therapy for their tinnitus. The amplification of the environmental sounds by the hearing aids can cover up the sound of the tinnitus and the sound therapy helps with the tinnitus.

There are a few FDA approved tinnitus treatments proven to reduce the level of tinnitus as well as the discomfort and annoyance of tinnitus.

The Good News is that there are very effective treatment options available that will help people suffering from tinnitus!

I recently enhanced my evaluation and treatment options for my tinnitus patients by completing an extensive training program with Dr. Richard Tyler, a world famous expert on the effects and treatment of tinnitus. Call us today for a copy of this book, “TINNITUS” (regular price $34.99). I am looking forward to meeting you and discussing how we can help you with your tinnitus symptoms.
