Hearing Protection

Whether the exposure happens over a long period of time or in one burst, noise exposure is the most common cause of hearing loss. When sound is too loud, cochlea hair cells are damaged and once damaged they cannot be repaired or restored. But hearing loss due to damaging levels of sound is completely preventable. Whether you are exposed on the job or performing leisure activities, Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions can fit you with comfortable and effective custom earplugs and earmolds to protect your hearing.

Custom earmolds

It just takes a few moments for the Audiologist or Hearing Instrument Specialist to make a cast of your ear. This cast is then used to manufacture custom earmolds that fit perfectly because they mimic the shape of your ears. This perfect fit offers superior hearing protection that is comfortable to wear no matter how many hours they are worn. Custom earmolds fit better and provide better protection than off-the-shelf solutions.

Every New Jersey office of Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions offers custom earmolds in an array of colors and types. Some custom earmolds are solid, while others are made of a soft, sponge-like material. You will find full-shell earmolds for high noise level environments and half-shell earmolds for mid-level noise environments.

We also have custom earmolds fitted with filters that block damaging levels of noise but still allow you to hear conversation. Electronic models favored by hunters can even amplify background noise, such as game noise, while suppressing the sound of gunfire.

Custom earplugs

Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions makes casts of ear canals too. These are used to create custom earplugs for hearing protection. They fit as comfortably as in-the-canal hearing aids and provide much better protection than over-the-counter earplugs.

Custom earplugs can be made from solid or soft material. They can be fitted with handles or cords to make it easy to insert and remove them.

Hearing protection isn’t the only reason to wear custom earplugs.  Shift workers and frequent travelers find they provide the perfect quiet sleeping environment no matter where or when you need to sleep. Water sports enthusiasts also find custom earplugs that protect against wind and water to stop swimmer’s or surfer’s ear before it starts.

Musician’s earplugs and in-ear monitors

Both professional and amateur musicians are exposed to damaging decibel levels. Whether it’s on the stage or marching on the field, musicians must protect their hearing. However, most traditional earplugs distort sound. Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions offers custom earplugs designed specifically with the needs of musicians in mind. They reduce the decibel level but do not distort the sound. Instruments and voices sound clear, and the ears are protected too.

For professional musicians, amplification and crowd noise provide two additional sources of excess noise. The solution is in-ear monitors created especially for use by musicians. They replace on-stage monitors and allow musical performers to hear music and crowd at safe levels.
